1927 Founded the Sogetsu School of flower arranging

1950 - 1970 Held exhibitions in Europe and the U.S.
1960 Awarded the Order of Arts and Letters from the French government
1962 Received the Minister of Education Awards for Art from Japanese government

Sofu Teshigahara is a visionary Japanese avant-garde artist whose philosophy transformed the post-war art scene in Japan. In addition to flower arranging, he creates sculptures, paintings as well as calligraphy.
